181 Blue Light Damage and Environmental Stressors - How to Protect Your Skin

I recently learned about blue light damage and honestly, I was shocked. I did not know how the new research is showing that being in front of a screen like a computer screen, a phone screen, your TV screen, can really damage your skin and your eyes. Now I knew about the eyes, I knew that blue light can damage the retinal cells and it can contribute to cataracts and macular degeneration and eye cancer. So I did know about blue light and eyes. But I did not know that blue light can actually speed up aging, it can cause DNA damage and cell and tissue death. So it's even more important to really protect your skin from blue light damage. I mean, who wants to be using anti aging products and really trying to do everything you can to minimize the looks of aging, and then get damage all day from the screen. I'm right there with you. I’m mid 40s. I'm doing all those things. And then I go to work and I sit in front of a huge screen all day long.

Now one way that I'm protecting my skin from that blue light damage is by using an SPF every day. So even if you are not out in the sun, you should be using an SPF every single day because it helps fight against that blue light damage. It also helps protect you when you're driving in your car and getting unintentional damage from the sun. So that is the number one thing: make sure you're using an SPF every day. Even though you're not going to be outside, it's still important to protect your face from that blue light damage.

Another great way to help and protect your skin is a vitamin C serum. Now these vitamin C serums are very popular these days, you may have seen them in the market. But not all are created equal. Just like when we talk about other skincare products that are popular. There are some harmful ingredients in conventional products and I'm going to share some of those ingredients that you want to look out for. You want to look for hydroquinone which is honestly frequently recommended by dermatologists when women go and ask for help with melasma. You know those dark spots that come from being pregnant or other hormonal changes, hydroquinone is often recommended and this ingredient is not good. It is banned by the European Union. It is linked with cancer and it has mutagenic properties. It is linked with organ system toxicity. And it's also linked with respiratory tract irritation. So check your brand, your labels for hydroquinone, you definitely want to avoid that.

Also, many vitamin C serums have silicones in them and what silicones do is it actually makes it sit on top of the skin. So instead of actually penetrating the skin and improving the skin the silicone actually gives this artificial shine, which makes it look like there is change happening in your skin. But it's actually not. It's just sitting on top. Instead of permeating the skin with active ingredients to actually make a difference it just sits on top and creates this artificial shine.

Conventional vitamin C serums, they might be really unstable in formulation. Vitamin C is a very picky ingredient. The version that's in a typical Vitamin C Serum might not be as stable as one that is really made to improve your skin. Vitamin C is heat and light sensitive. So if you have a product, a vitamin C product that is in a clear bottle it’s not going to last very long. You may pay a good amount of money for it, but the effectiveness is going to go away really quickly. You need to have a vitamin C that is stable, and also that can withstand that change with heat and light. Also, some vitamin Cs oxidize rapidly, and they just lose their efficacy.

So I'm really excited about this new Crunchi product that actually comes out tomorrow. It's called I Am Bright. And the reason why this is different from your typical Vitamin C Serum is first of all, it's in a sustainable package. We know that's so important. It has safe ingredients that have been determined safe and live up to our super stringent safety standards. And also because it has this performance so it's this marriage of these super safe ingredients using unique ingredients for the application that make it super effective and perform because why are we going to spend money on these products that don't perform?

The ingredients that make this product different that you're not going to find in typical Vitamin C serum is first of all, the vitamin C is very stable. It's ascorbyl glucoside. It is easily absorbed, it has time release technology so it benefits the skin throughout the day. It visibly brightens your skin tone, it minimizes the appearance of dark spots and post acne marks and encourages cell turnover. Turnover for healthy radiant skin. So it's not just any vitamin C it's this super stable, super awesome vitamin C because there are different types of vitamin C out there.

The other ingredients that really help this protection from blue light damage and also environmental stressors is the Kakadu plum fruit which has 100 times more vitamin C than an orange. Crazy. The Kakadu plum fruit, it's also kind of fun to say, and then snow mushroom extract which hydrates and it has antioxidant properties that reinforce the skin barrier and help to protect the skin from environmental stressors and blue light damage. So awesome.

Another awesome ingredient in I Am Bright facial serum is for ferulic acid, which is another potent antioxidant that helps boost the efficacy of vitamin C, so it makes vitamin C work better. It makes it work faster with more visible results and less irritation.

Niacinamide vitamin B3, which evens the skin tone and visibly brightens the skin.

Sign me up. I'm in.

I just started using I Am Bright. I've had it for less than a week and I've been using it in the morning to work underneath my SPF. So again I'm like double protecting myself from blue light and damage and environmental stressors. But I'm already seeing a big difference in the rosacea on my face. I have rosacea on my forehead and a little bit on my nose and cheeks and I'm seeing a really big difference in my rosacea so I'm thrilled about that.

So if you don't have a vitamin C serum in your skincare routine, I do encourage you to do it. Again, I want you to check for those not so great ingredients. And I of course would recommend Crunchi because it has these awesome unique ingredients that both make it work better but also keep the vitamin C very stable so it can do the job. It really protects against the blue light damage and environmental stressors while also helping to brighten your skin. But a healthier Vitamin C serum. Why you want to add it to your routine is because it can help minimize the appearance of dark spots and promote healthy skin. It will even your skin and help create a glowing complexion. It helps your skin naturally turnover cells. It will encourage revitalization of your skin and rejuvenate the skin. It will help create a radiant and glowing complexion while reducing the appearance of dull skin. And it is antioxidant packed to help protect from environmental stressors and blue light damage. It's a real natural defense product for the skin. I am absolutely loving this. I Am Bright, it comes out tomorrow. Go to the website, grab it, make sure you have it.
