You may have heard in my last podcast episode that we have added a new line of business to our interior design business – we are now selling cabinets. We have partnered with a company that has the most incredible green story I have found for any product that enters your home. I am honored to be partnered with this company and wanted to share about them, along with our experience with this cabinetry line. Also, I'll discuss how to decipher if the cabinets you're interested in are as eco-friendly as possible and will support your family's health.

In finding this company, I'll share a little bit about how we became partnered with them. My partner and I went to Las Vegas for a big kitchen expo. Our mission was to find a cabinetry line that we could share with our clients and local community—something unique and aligned with our personal values. We wanted a product that we believed in and knew would do good for the world, rather than negatively impacting the Earth. It was an exhausting trip with lots of walking, dehydration, and difficulty finding food. We found a couple of cabinetry lines that seemed interesting but didn't feel quite right.

On the last day, exhausted, we walked by a line of beautiful cabinets that seemed too high-end for our market. We rested near those cabinets during a panel discussion about European cabinetry, discussing its beauty and affordability due to efficient manufacturing. Intrigued, we went back to that showroom area and found out about the line called Boform out of Germany. We started talking with them and fell in love with the product, its manufacturing process, and the customization options. The price was surprisingly reasonable for crafting gorgeous cabinets with all the accessories needed for an organized kitchen, bathroom, or closet.

In early 2023, we decided to open a showroom, showcasing these cabinets and eventually started selling them. The first few projects were a success, creating beautiful spaces with European-style cabinets. We got invited to Germany to become a part of the Boform family, and the trip felt like the right place at the right time.

The company is still family-owned, manufacturing in Germany for over 100 years. When touring their factories, the manufacturing process amazed us. They use a mix of robots and Chaos Theory, maximizing efficiency and minimizing waste. The attention to detail, from materials to manufacturing, shipping, and environmental impact, is mind-blowing.

Choosing green cabinetry involves looking for low VOC materials, FSC certified wood, understanding the difference between particle board and plywood, considering travel distance, and ensuring quality for long-lasting use. The environmental and health benefits of choosing eco-friendly cabinets are significant, despite the potential initial cost difference.
